Pediatric physical therapy has been used in rehabilitation of neurological and orthopedic pediatric disorders since early 1900's. Pediatric rehabilitation allows for professionals of physical, speech, and occupational therapy to incorporate state of the art treatment in increasing a child's lifelong potential. Prevention Physical Therapy utilizes treatment techniques that have been clinically proven in increasing the gross and fine motor skills of children.

Treatment techniques consist of Neurodevelopment and Treatment, Developmental training, and NMES and biofeedback systems. Each one of the techniques is described in detail under the therapy approaches menu to your left. Please surf further into the web site to see the details of treatments available for your child. PEDIATRIC BIOFEEDBACK & NMES
Physical therapy modalities such as biofeedback & NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) are used in order to elicit muscle contractions from a child. By using these modalities a professional physical therapist can encourage the appropriate motions needed for crawling, walking, and normal gross motor development. Prevention Physical Therapy utilizes state of the art machines that provide the highest levels of patient comfort. Please click on the link to the left under Therapy Approaches-- Biofeedback/NMES to learn in detail how these modalities operate.

                   CASTING
Casting, known in the field as serial casting, allows for a therapist to apply a cast for the purposes of improving range of motion, increasing muscular flexibility, and decreasing tone in muscle groups. Prevention Physical Therapy is excited to provide casting services and orthotic referrals. If you have interests into this field please contact Prevention Physical Therapy and a licensed physical or occupational therapist will respond within 24 hours. The following children are potential recipients of serial casting:

                    - Children with tightened heel cords, contracted hamstrings & adductor muscles

                     - Children that tend to toe walk consistently

                     - Children that have been injected with botox in order to take full benefits of stretching muscles during treatment

                  ORTHOTICS
Orthotics are utilized for a variety of reasons. One of the most common orthotics is the AFO (ankle foot orthosis). This orthotic is used to support the ankle during weight bearing and allows for increased motion during walking activities. Orthotics also are used for knee support, hip, shoulder, elbow, and wrist support. The following problems may benefit from the use of orthotics:

                    - Hemiplegia, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, Spina Bifida, scoliosis, and various orthopedic and neurological disorders.

                     - Muscular weakness, Underdeveloped foot arch, toe walking, and to prevent hyper or hypo extension of the knee joint secondary to ankle range of motion.

                     - Examples of Orthotics: AFO, SMO, shoe inserts, DAFO, KAFO, and HKAFO.

*Doctor's prescription needed for orthotic and casting services*

                   HIPPOTHERAPY
Hippotherapy, unlike the name says, is actually therapy provided by the use of horses and professionally trained therapists. Hippotherapy is an exciting arena for treatment of a child. Not only is the experience brought to the outside environment, but the interaction a child receives while on a horse is simply amazing. One of the great places in Broward County to go for these services is Project Stable at Appy Pines Ranch. This facility offers services to a large group of children as of now. Visit the links below for more information on the topic of Hippotherapy and its benefits:
